A Week at Legacy Land and Livestock: Farm Diary
Welcome to another week at Legacy Land and Livestock! Here’s what’s been happening on our farm in Durant, Oklahoma.
Flock Update
Our hens and ducks continue to thrive in the summer sunshine. We’ve noticed particularly strong egg production from both our chicken and duck flocks this week, with the ducks laying some exceptionally large and rich eggs.
Pasture Management
We rotated our flock to fresh pasture mid-week, giving them access to new foraging areas. This rotational grazing helps maintain soil health and provides our birds with diverse nutrition.
Weekly Highlights
- Collected over 20 dozen eggs mid-week peak
- Installed additional shade structures for afternoon comfort
- Completed weekly health checks on all birds – all looking healthy and active
- Prepared nesting boxes for next week’s collection
Egg Availability Update
We have excellent availability of both chicken and duck eggs this week. Remember:
- Chicken eggs: $4 per dozen
- Duck eggs: $5 per dozen (updated price)
All eggs are collected daily, washed for your safety, and available for pickup within days of being laid.
Looking Ahead
Next week we’re planning to:
- Introduce some new foraging plants to the pasture areas
- Host a small educational visit from the local 4-H club
- Begin preparations for our fall planting schedule
